ITINERARIES TRANSCANTÁBRICO GRAND LUXURY TRAIN - SHORT ROUTES (two routes)

ITINERARY 1

Oviedo > San Sebastian (4d/3n)

Day 1. Oviedo - Gijón - Llanes (Tuesday)

Reception on board the train at Oviedo station at 10:00h.  Accommodation on the train. Visit of the historic center of Oviedo and transfer by coach to Gijón. Lunch. In the afternoon visit of Gijón. Afterwards return to the train to Llanes. Dinner on board and overnight in Llanes.

Day 2. Llanes - Picos de Europa - Cabezón de la Sal (Wednesday)

After breakfast with our coach, we will ascend to the Picos de Europa, Covadonga Lakes, Sanctuary and Cangas de Onis, the first Spanish capital after the reconquest. Lunch. In the afternoon we will return to the train and visit the fishing village of Llanes. Dinner on board and overnight in Cabezón de la Sal.

Day 3. Cabezón de la Sal - Santillana - Santander (Thursday)

Our first visit will be to the Neocave of Altamira, museum and faithful reproduction of this maximum exponent of Upper Paleolithic cave art. Then, Santillana del Mar, a village with its magnificently preserved medieval old town. After lunch, we will go by train to Santander, the elegant capital of Cantabria, where we will have a guided tour and free time. Dinner and overnight in Santander.

Day 4. Santander - Bilbao - San Sebastian (Friday)

During breakfast, El Transcantábrico sets off for Bilbao. Upon arrival, we say goodbye to the crew and the train to visit this dynamic city, which has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its traditional heavy industry. The visit to the city includes the entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of this new Bilbao.

After the visit we will travel to San Sebastian, where we will have lunch at the Costa Vasca Hotel and finish our trip around 4:30 pm.                                    

ITINERARY 2

Santiago de Compostela > Gijón (4d/3n)

Day 1. Santiago de Compostela - Ferrol - Viveiro (Saturday)

Reception at 10:00h at the Parador de los Reyes Católicos in Santiago de Compostela. Visit of the historical center and lunch. In the afternoon our luxury coach will take us to Ferrol where the train and its crew will be waiting for us. Welcome and accommodation to start our journey by train to Viveiro. Visit, dinner and night in Viveiro.

Day 2. Viveiro - Ribadeo (Sunday)

While having breakfast, the train will arrive in Ribadeo, a historic Galician town bordering the Principality of Asturias. With the coach we will cross the region of Oscos-Eo, biosphere reserve and we will arrive at Taramundi, an authentic natural theme park where water is the protagonist. Visit of Os Castros and Texois, one of the best ethnographic sites in the world, based on water. Lunch, free time and return to Ribadeo. Dinner and overnight in Ribadeo.

Day 3. Ribadeo - Luarca (Monday)

After breakfast, visit of Ribadeo and its surroundings, arriving at Las Catedrales Beach, one of the most spectacular beaches in the world. Lunch in Ribadeo. In the afternoon with the train, we will continue our trip to Luarca, La Villa Blanca de La Costa Verde, visit, dinner on board and night in Luarca.

Day 4.  Luarca - Gijón (Tuesday)

Enjoying our last breakfast on board, we will arrive at the Capital of the Principality of Asturias, Oviedo. Where we will say goodbye to the train and its crew. Visit of Oviedo and transfer by coach to Gijón. Lunch at the Molino Viejo de Gijón National Park. Where we will finish our services after lunch around 16:30h.

ITINERARY 1

Oviedo > Bilbao (3d/2n)

Day 1. Oviedo - Picos de Europa - Llanes

Reception on board the train at Oviedo station at 10:00h.  Accommodation on board and subsequent visit of the historic center of Oviedo. While having lunch on board the train we will arrive to Arriondas, from where we will depart with our coach to the Picos de Europa; Covadonga Lakes, Sanctuary and Cangas de Onis, the first Spanish capital after the reconquest. Dinner and overnight in Llanes.

Day 2. Llanes - Santillana - Santander

During breakfast the train will arrive at Cabezón de la Sal, from where we will depart to visit the Neo-cave of Altamira, museum and faithful reproduction of this maximum exponent of the cave art of the Upper Paleolithic. During breakfast, the Costa Verde Express sets sail for Bilbao. Upon arrival, we bid farewell to the crew and the train to visit this dynamic city, which has managed to reinvent itself after the decline of its traditional heavy industry. The visit to the city includes the entrance to the famous Guggenheim Museum, symbol of this new Bilbao. After the visit we will end our trip at approximately 14:00h at La Concordia station.

ITINERARY 2

León > Bilbao (3d/2n)

Day 1. León - Valporquero - Cistierna

Reception of the group at 10:00 a.m. at the Hotel Real Colegiata de San Isidoro de León.  Visit of the monumental city of León and lunch. Early in the afternoon we will take the train in San Feliz. Presentation of the crew and accommodation on board while the Costa Verde Express arrives in Matallana. In the afternoon by coach through the spectacular Hoces de Vegacervera we will arrive at Valporquero to visit its caves, famous for their stalactites, stalagmites and capriciously shaped lava flows. We will then return to the train to Cistierna, where we will have dinner and spend the night. 

Day 2. Cistierna - Romanesque Palencia - Espinosa de los Monteros

While we enjoy our first breakfast on board, the train will take us to Guardo, in the lands of Palencia. From here, we will go by bus to visit the Roman Villa of La Olmeda with its magnificent collection of mosaics, before discovering one of the best Romanesque art sites in Europe, in the middle of the Camino de Santiago. Saldaña, Carrión de los Condes and Frómista, where we will have lunch. After visiting the impressive temple of San Martin, and the Canal de Castilla, we will head back to the train to transfer to Espinosa de los Monteros, beautiful village of Las Merindades burgalesas, dinner and overnight in Espinosa.

Day 3. Espinosa de los Monteros - Bilbao

While having breakfast we will cross the incredible landscape of the Mena Valley to reach Balmaseda. Brief visit of this village of the encartaciones, before arriving by bus to Bilbao. Visit of the city and its universally known Guggenheim Museum. Free time to finish the trip at approximately 2:00 pm at La Concordia station.

ITINERARY 3

Bilbao > Oviedo (3d/2n)

Day 1. Bilbao - Santander

Reception of passengers at La Concordia Station - Bilbao at 14:00. Baggage collection and accommodation on board the Costa Verde Express train. Welcome drink while the train heads to Santander. Visit of the city and free time. Dinner and overnight in Santander.

Day 2. Santander - Santillana - Llanes

While having breakfast, the train will arrive at Cabezón de la Sal, from where we will depart to visit the Neocave of Altamira and then the medieval village of Santillana del Mar. Lunch on board while the train heads to Llanes. Visit, dinner and overnight in Llanes.

Day 3. Llanes - Picos de Europa - Oviedo

After breakfast, with the coach, we will ascend to visit the Sanctuary of Covadonga and Los Lagos, then, Cangas de Onis, first capital of the Asturian Kingdom.  Back on the train, lunch on board while the Costa Verde Express heads to our final destination, Oviedo, where we will end our journey at the Renfe train station in Oviedo at approximately 6:00 pm.
